The summer I spent with LETY Construction

IMG_8737-optThe Summer I Spent With LETY Construction

“Can they do that? Can they assign work even though I haven’t been hired?”

This was my initial thought upon receiving an email from LETY Construction Owner Rachelle, asking me to complete a skill test as a follow up to my interview for the position of Social Media Coordinator. I completed the assessment, and despite my initial grumblings I was impressed that the owners were so invested in finding a good fit for a mere two month position; this was my first indication that I had stumbled across a company that takes pride in every aspect of its business, from the quality of its repairs to it’s Facebook page. I was hired at the end of June to improve LETY’s online presence, and as I took up my role and the summer progressed, I continued to be impressed with LETY Construction.

One of the most interesting parts of the summer was being stationed in an office with Rachelle, and when he wasn’t on the job site, Wes. To begin with it was intimidating sitting an arms length away from my employers, who happen to be married. In that small office you hear every conversation, debate, and joke made- if you want to get to know your colleagues better, share a tight work area with them!

On the flip side, being in close quarters provided me with unique insight into how LETY Construction is managed- and what I found is that it’s done with integrity. I heard many conversations where Wes and Rachelle discussed the materials, price, and method of repair for a project with emphasis on what would serve their client best rather than their business, something that all not all companies can claim.

Another aspect of my time with LETY that stood out was the staff’s willingness to commit to our online campaign. I’ve spent several years working in the field of social media development and I’ve learned that often times a good post requires cooperation and stepping out of one’s comfort zone. Getting this content isn’t always easy- in fact it can be like pulling teeth, especially with a group of people you don’t know well.

When our staff got together to take a photo for the thirteenth anniversary of the company, I nervously handed out props, ready to have to argue for their worth. Instead, while they drew the line at taking a synchronized jumping video, this group donned oversized sunglasses, party hats, and noisemakers in the name of Facebook. It’s not something in their job descriptions but they did it without complaint, and were quick to help out with other tasks like writing biographies and sending me photos and ideas for our page- making my job a lot easier than expected.

All in all, I feel very fortunate to have had the chance to be involved with LETY Construction. I’ve learned a lot about foundation repair and waterproofing (I now know who to call if I’m ever concerned about water intrusion!), had the chance to meet some wonderful people, and I’m confident that we’ve set LETY on the right path with regards to online presence. The updated website will shortly be live, our Facebook page and Google posts will continue to be updated, and while LETY Construction is ending the summer with a technological facelift, I’m leaving with an experience I won’t soon forget. Thank you to the entire LETY team- until next time!

LETY Construction is Getting a Technological Makeover

IMG_7427It’s impossible to deny that the internet has changed the way companies interact with clients, and these days the web is an essential tool for businesses. With this in mind, we’ve decided it’s time for LETY Construction to join the 21st Century and get a technological makeover!

To do this, we’ve hired a student for the summer to update and strengthen our online presence. Krystin Hoffart is a third year Psychology student at the University of Alberta with a keen eye for all things online! She’s spent several years managing the social media accounts for multiple businesses in the Edmonton area, and she’s excited to get her hands dirty with the LETY Construction brand.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing what we’re able to accomplish! It’s a great local business with a strong reputation, and by revamping LETY’s online presentation I’m confident we’ll be able to represent the company, it’s quality repairs, and it’s values well.”

Krystin will be working on various projects over the summer- there’s much to be done! She’s already created a Facebook page for us, and will be working with a third party to optimize our new website. She will also be updating our profiles on several websites, compiling reviews and testimonials, and developing an online marketing campaign for some of our services.

LETY Construction is committed to quality in every aspect of our business, from customer service to repairs to our online presence. We’re excited to have Krystin aboard our team and we’re looking forward to the changes she will implement online, which will better reflect our business and serve our clients!

Spring has sprung – it’s time to test your sump-pump

Mar 23, 2016

The best drainage system in the world is only as good as it’s sump pump. Your pump should be tested at least twice a year. Make plans to do it as part of your Spring and Fall maintenance of your home. To test the pump, fill the basin with water to the level required to engage the pump (usually just above it). The pump should “kick” on and empty the basin. If it doesn’t, check the power source. If there is power to the pump and it does not turn on with the required water level you may have to replace your pump.

Spring rain is here!

Apr 23, 2014

Spring is here and the forecast is calling for rain this week. It is important to take a few minutes around your house to ensure your basement stays dry. Make sure your downspouts are down and directed away from your foundation. Clean out any leaves and other debris that may have collected there over the winter so that the water can easily flow. If your sump pump discharge hose is still off after the winter, now is the time to put is back on and extend it away from your house. Window wells are great places for old newspapers and other winter “treasure” to collect. Time to clear them out. While you are in your yard, take a walk around the full perimeter of your house and look at the grade next to your foundation. Are there any low spots where water is collecting?

Back inside your house, it is time for your spring sump pump check. If the basin is collecting water and your sump pump is “kicking on” great news – just ensure the discharge path is clear. If the basin is dry, fill it with water to ensure the pump turns on when the level of water reaches the trigger point (should be just above the level of the pump). If the basin is full of water and the pump does not turn on, check the float switch to ensure it is not stuck in the down position.  If the float switch is clear and it still will not kick on, check the power source. If the float switch is clear, there is power to the pump and it still will not turn on, you may need to look at replacing the pump.

If you do find water coming into your basement, please give us a call – we would be happy to come out and have a look!

We’ve moved!

Dec 1, 2012

After seven+ years of working out of warehouse space and a home-based office, it was time to make the move and bring operations together under one roof.

We moved into our new office and warehouse October 14, 2012 and couldn’t be happier with the decision! We are now located in the industrial area of Sherwood Park at 194 Cree Road (about 2 minutes from the Baseline Road exit off the Henday). Our office phone number is 780-467-6960 and fax is 780-467-6976.
