Window Wells
Window wells are installed on all at or below-grade windows. Window wells are an important part of a good grading system.
They allow the grade (dirt) to be brought up higher around the windows to ensure that a negative grade (slope going away) from the structure can be maintained, while ensuring water, dirt and other debris stays away from the windows.
It is important that the window well is installed in conjunction with a vertical drain to the existing weeping tile. This ensures water cannot accumulate in the window well and flood into the basement around the window.
Window wells also allow natural light to reach basement rooms, making the space brighter and more inviting. And in case of emergency, egress window wells can provide an escape route or help emergency personnel access the basement.
As part of your spring and fall clean-up, it is important to keep the window well free of debris (leaves, newspapers, etc.) Learn about maintaining your window wells.
At LETY Construction, we install all forms and sizes of window wells on new and existing foundations.
FAQ
-
If the window well is big enough, our technicians will dig straight down to the footing from inside the window well. If it is smaller, we will remove the window well and proceed to dig from there. Once we get to the footing, we inspect the weeping tile and verify it has flow before installing the rock-filled vertical drain. From there, we install washed rock over top of the weeping tile and the bottom of the drain, backfill with native soil (or excavated clay), and top it off with at least 2’ of washed rock.
Testimony from a Satisfied Client
“The service from the first phone call was amazing: promptly providing a quote and subsequent booking of the service appointment; I never got voicemail and I spoke to a courteous employee who always addressed my matters in a timely fashion. The workers who did the project were professional. In addition to doing the job they did a conscientious and thorough clean up. I strongly recommend.”
